So I’m definitely late to the party, I binged the whole season last night on Netflix. I can’t stop thinking about the ending. I know not every show has a fairytale ending but I was so invested in the characters and hoping they would finally have a happy ending, I just feel devastated. I’m not the most emotional person and tv shows/films rarely have a lasting effect on me. I know people have said that they were only young and need to explore etc but it seemed it was always outside obstacles that caused them to not be together, it certainly wasn’t their chemistry, love for one another or their compatibility.
In a way I’m glad Marianne was finding her feet and happy with her life where she was and obviously Connell’s writing program was a chance of a lifetime. But they had finally reached a point of growth and was comfortable and more secure with each other then they had ever been. The scene of them kissing in front of everyone at the New Year’s Eve party and Marianne remembering their first kiss, got me right in the feels. I know their only characters on a show but they seemed so real (I know, that was the point) I just wish they would have agreed on a long distance relationship as it would have only been a year. Neither one of their other relationships worked out because they clearly still loved one another and didn’t want to be out of each other’s lives.
Just wondering what other people’s hypothetical scenario would be when Connell came back from New York? Do you think they would have found each other again? Or would they have gone in completely different directions?
