Gonna start by noting that these types of posts always have commenters getting downvoted for answering the question correctly (and people saying completely cold takes like “I think Season 5 was the best season of Breaking Bad” getting upvoted) so if you care about karma, respond at your own discretion.

  • Eastbound and Down: I love the whole series, but S1 is widely considered the best season whereas I love how bleak and deconstructive the final season is. It’s like the show finally pulls the mask off and shows what the consequences of acting like Kenny Powers actually would be in real life (unfortunately the finale kinda negates this, but those first 7 episodes are strong enough that it outweighs the cop-out ending).
  • Barry: People seem to think the first 2 seasons are the best and the last 2 are much weaker by comparison. I find S2 to be the funniest but story-wise it’s the most redundant and the amount of plot armor in the final shootout sequence is utterly ludicrous to the point where it takes me out. Season 4 felt like the show finally had legitimate stakes and major characters could actually die, and while the last 4 episodes had their flaws I appreciate how ballsy it was to change everything up so drastically - the first episode after the time jump felt like it could’ve been directed by Gus Van Sant. (This is also where I feel inclined to shill for Delocated, which feels like [adult swim]'s direct predecessor to Barry with a lower budget but actual stakes and major character deaths throughout the whole show)
  • Rick and Morty: Season 1 isn’t the WEAKEST, that’s easily S5, but I find it hasn’t aged well where S2 mostly has. The nonstop belching in S1 annoys me and a lot of the jokes feel weird to me in a way even most of the incest stuff in later seasons doesn’t (most obvious example would be the granny cuck porn shit in Anatomy Park). Season 4 has my absolute two favorite episodes with the story train and the heist parody, and I at least somewhat enjoy every other episode minus the toilet one.
  • Flight of the Conchords: Unsure if this is still a commonly-held opinion but I remember lots of people saying that S2 was an obvious drop in quality when I first watched it. The songs aren’t as good, but I think the scripted parts were way funnier.
