So maybe it’s because I’m older but I don’t recall the show being this dumb and full of plot holes. I think it’s a byproduct of Dexter no longer being a part of a police department, and having far less access to personal data and crime scenes.
I still find the show very enjoyable, if tired, but some of the elements in the show have really stuck out to me as incredibly stupid.
Saying this, I really enjoy Michael C Hall’s phenomenal performance. That’s what’s kept me sticking around. I’m really glad they brought the dad back as Dexter’s dark passenger. Their chemistry has always been off the charts. Harrison’s scenes…I have to admit, I skip through most of them.
- Harrison killing a dude and chopping up the body with free reign over the clearly very high class hotel. No cameras in the hallways - they address this later but still - and no one in or out of the kitchens throughout the whole night and morning.
- Dexter waking up in hospital and being completely exonerated of any wrongdoing, despite killing a cop (the guy he strangled through the jail cell bars) . I get why the writers did this as no one liked that ending - but they only have themselves to blame.
- Dexter steals a car when escaping the hospital and no one seems to care. Clearly hasn’t been reported as missing because Dexter drives it around like it isn’t even hot, parking up prominently in NYC. Then, when it’s impounded, he gets it back, no issues. Also, I’m not sure why he felt the need to escape anyway, Batista wasn’t going to arrest him and he could have just asked the hospital to tell him to leave.
- Uma Thurman killing a dude in broad daylight on a public street in an extremely graphic and violent way with a spiked baseball bat
- Dexter conveniently swiping a security card, and having free reign over a hotel. No one works there after dark, it seems.
- The ‘imposter’ killer carrying around a bag with his workplace name on it. Yet has gone to great lengths to mask his features with 'camera blocking technology’
- The imposter’s mystical camera blocking technology
- Dexter managing to track down who the imposter is simply by standing outside a door and looking out for the only dude who doesn’t have a picture on the website, out of like five people. Isn’t this supposed to be a huge tech company?
- The police not checking the murder victim’s final movements on CCTV for days after discovering the body. ‘Who’s that?’ queries the apparently exceptional cop when seeing the blonde lady at the bar with him. Then we see there was CCTV of Harrison in the elevator with him and the woman all along.
- Cops openly discussing murder case infront of the hotel manager. Particularly, because this asshole has made it clear he doesn’t want to help.
- Police not knowing Harrison’s address. The hotel would have had this or some form of address. Police detective doesn’t even push him on it when he evaded the question. ‘Get me everything you can on Mr Morgan,’ she says to her colleague after Harrison has left. Like, you haven’t even asked his home address.
- Convenient background check website telling Dexter the imposter’s home address.
- Harrison not being arrested straight away. Somehow him claiming he lives at the hotel is stopping them from arresting him. Like that’s some type of alibi.
