I’ve been thinking about QBs in the NFL. Specifically the ones in the Josh Rosen tier of quarterbacks. Or really any QB who washed out of the league before 30.

Now I’ve been coming up with a sort of theory, or thought experiment. If you theoretically took a quarterback who is not good and kept him as your starter until they retired from age. A QB simply not him in any way. Doesn’t pass the eye test, poor mental fortitude, the whole nine yards.

Do you think that if you just have one of this quarterbacks the keys to the franchise with 0 threat of being benched, they would eventually be good? I mean if you just let the guy be an NFL quarterback for 10+ years with 0 threat of being benched, is there a world where they develop into a savvy NFL veteran quarterback?

Think of all the reps and all the experience they would garner. And even if they’re bad, you’d assume these would incrementally improve their play over several years.

If true, this might be a more feasible plan for teams who have never in recent memory had a good quarterback. Instead of riding the carousel and taking shots at the dart board just commit to one loser and make him into a hall of famer by brute force.
