On June 19th, Al-Ittihad from Saudi Arabia released their latest kit, with three versions of a black jersey featuring details in black, gold and silver. The kit was meant to celebrate Al-Ittihad’s history, with the gold representing their domestic titles and the silver representing their continental success.
It quickly became apparent that this was essentially a direct copy of various AIK jerseys. The fully black one is essentially a carbon copy of AIK’s 2019 blackout kit, the one with silver is very reminiscent of the 2025 Smokinglirare Edition, and AIK have also used gold text for the 2019 White Edition kit.
Not only are the colors the same, they also present the founding year of the club in the exact same way on the chest using the same font and dots next to it. This was noticed by Erik Holm, the man who created the custom font in 2013 and who has helped design some AIK kits since then, and even though the font is copyrighted Al-Ittihad have used it completely without licensing it and without altering the font or the design.
To make things even worse, they also photographed the shirts in the same way. There is no doubt that Al-Ittihad and Nike directly copied the jersey designed by AIK and used copyrighted material in doing so. This has made the news in Sweden and Norway, and AIK have gotten a lawyer involved, but there are no signs of anything emerging from this.
