I know that without a screen they don’t count as handheld, but the T1000-E is a more ‘mainstream’ user-friendly option.
Using the app is easier than navigating small screens with small controls. The cards are small, light, and inconspicuous, with decent battery life, at about the same price as this
The main tradeoffs would be having to use a phone, and likely shorter range
