Joel Klatt made the point on his podcast and I think it’s so true.

While Clemson has two more championship appearances, and 1 more title I feel like they both gave similar vibes

  • Both had elite coaches (Mack Brown and Dabo Swinney) who resisted change towards the end.

  • Both had a string of 3 QBs starting with a very good one (Simms and Boyd) followed by a few of the best QBs in the country (Young/McCoy and Watson/Lawrence)

  • Both had one all time team (2005 Texas and 2018 Clemson) as well as a few other outstanding teams (2004, 2008, 2009 Texas and 2015, 2016, 2019 Clemson)

2005: 13-0

2006: 10-3

2007: 10-3

2008: 12-1

2009: 13-1

Bowl Record in this time: 7-3
