- Step 1: A Call to Rankers right after the Conference Championship games
- Step 2: Rankers from each team nominated players to rank, with a 11 game minimum threshold. Players are associated with the team they played for in 2024
- Step 3: The Grind. We instructed users to tier positions groups into T25, T50, etc based on 2024 regular season play only. This took several weeks as the rankers tiered each position group and discussed them. There were no individual player threads and no arbitrary position caps. Just questions and rankings.
- Step 4: Users submitted their own personal Top 125 lists.
- Step 5: User lists were reviewed by myself and u/mattkud . The rankers were expected to answer questions about their lists. They were allowed to make any changes to their list, and were not forced to make any changes
- Step 6: The Reveal… where we are now!

Introduction
The Cincinnati Bengals decided to end the Andy Dalton era after the 2019 season, without a single playoff win in his nine year tenure. It was worse than that, though. The playoff win drought for the Bengals stretched back all the way to 1990, the longest such drought in the league. With the first overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, they had the chance to alter the course of their franchise. In came Joe Burrow, coming off an explosive final collegiate year on his way to the consensus number one overall pick. In quick time, Joe Burrow transformed the Bengals from a laughingstock to one of the best offenses in the league. Since day one entering the league, Burrow has been staking his claim as an elite quarterback, and to great success. He keeps pumping out top 5 QB seasons year after year, arguably is coming off his best season yet. So good he needs two nicknames, Joe Brrr/Shiesty is an elite QB, and the sky’s the limit for the rest of his career.
2024
Joe Burrow and the Bengals season started off poorly, with an ugly loss to the Patriots in week one, a team who would only go on to win three more games. The Bengals followed it up with two more losses, albeit to future playoff teams in the Chiefs and Commanders, en route to a 0-3 start. Slow starts have become a sort of hallmark for the Bengals and Burrow in recent years, but this year was different. Besides a flat performance in week one, Burrow actually played great, despite the losses. This was a sign of things to come, as Burrow had his highest volume season yet, passing for 4918 yards and 43 touchdowns, both the league lead. Despite a subpar offensive line, something he’s dealt with his whole career, Burrow still slang the rock as well as anyone in the league. Watch this play, when he throws a perfect back shoulder fade to Ja’Marr Chase despite getting absolutely hammered immediately after the throw. There’s also this play when, again, Burrow gets nailed but still drops a perfect pass on the post route to Chase for a touchdown. When evaluating QBs, a lot of thought goes into how good their protection is. Burrow is a rare breed; having a bad offensive line impacts him less than any other QB in the league. After five years, he has essentially learned to thrive in the chaos. His pocket movement is absolutely elite, and when his protection breaks down (a common occurrence), he can make plays happen out of structure. For example, watch this play where Burrow immediately senses the pressure, makes a few moves in the pocket and steps up, and plays some backyard football to again find Chase for a big gain. The connection between Burrow and Chase is undoubtedly the best QB-WR connection in the league right now. It’s the combination of elite accuracy by Burrow and elite route running by Chase. Elite accuracy might even be underselling it for Burrow, as he is currently the all-time leader in completion percentage with a 68.6% rate. At the very least, he’s the most accurate QB since Drew Brees. Watch this back corner throw to Chase against the Ravens to tie the game. Perfect touch over two defenders to the back of the end zone, where Chase can do what he does best and make a play. You can probably find clips like these for any QB in the league, but you can’t find any QB in the league that does this stuff the entire game. In fact, in that same Ravens game, Burrow managed to pull this throw off. Nobody is supposed to throw like that. Nobody. Burrow is square to the line of scrimmage and fading backwards, and still manages to place a pinpoint accurate throw right past the LB in zone. And just to make sure you don’t think Burrow only throws this well to Chase, here’s a perfect sideline throw to Tee Higgins between two defenders. Here’s a perfect throw on the run under pressure to slot the ball between defenders on the sideline. I can go on and on and on sharing clips where Burrow makes magic happen. What even is this play? Who does this? The crazy thing is that’s not even the crazy thing. This is the crazy thing. How many touchdown passes have you seen where the quarterback is horizontal to the ground? I honestly have to cut myself off here or else I’ll never stop sharing clips. Joe Burrow is an absolutely insane quarterback, with some of the best pocket presence I’ve ever seen, and highlight reel of throws that would take hours to get through.
Legacy
I mentioned Drew Brees earlier in this blurb, and honestly he’s a great comparison for Burrow. Elite accuracy? Check. A horrible defense requiring the quarterback to put up video game numbers to stay in the game? Check. A maddening inability to win MVP because your best seasons are overshadowed by other all time seasons? Check. It seems almost inevitable though that eventually Burrow will win an MVP. One typical season from him and the Bengals going 12-5 instead of 9-8 should be enough. Quarterback legacy is always hard to evaluate, especially without a trove of accolades. Bengals fans know this the best, with Ken Anderson being one of the all-time Hall Of Fame snubs. The way Burrow is playing though, and we might be having that Hall Of Fame conversation in the future. He’s in the prime of his career, and he isn’t slowing down. Joe Burrow is an absolute beast.

It’s January 2020. The LSU Tigers are the National Champions of the college football world. Joe Burrow is the Heisman, having one of the most impressive single seasons a QB has ever had. Ja’Marr Chase and Justin Jefferson are one of the most dynamic duos at receiver the sport has ever seen. Jefferson and Burrow are heading to the NFL draft, while Ja’Marr prepared to play one more season at the college level. Then Covid happened. In the NFL draft that year, Joe Burrow went #1 overall, Jefferson went #22 overall, while Ja’Marr’s future in college was up in the air due to Covid. Months later, Ja’Marr decided he was not going to play, and would focus on the 2021 NFL Draft. Joe Burrow had shown great promise as a rookie, but a poor offensive line led to Burrow taking a lot of hits, and he went down injured after just 10 games. Justin Jefferson lit the league on fire as a rookie and was touted as a top receiver after just 1 season. Some believe Jefferson fell in the draft because they were not sure if having Ja’Marr on the other side at LSU made his job easier, but his rookie season put that to bed. People were sure that whatever team Ja’Marr went to, he’d be a big asset, and any team would be happy to have him, but a reunion with Jefferson or Burrow seemed unrealistic, or was it? The Bengals had the #5 overall pick in the …
