This might be a little more of an obscure pick, but mine would have to be Generation Kill. Such a raw, grounded look at the invasion in Iraq, made even better by the fact it was made only a few years after the events it depicted, and the aftermath of it was ongoing as it aired. I don’t think I’ve seen anything depict war so brutally and honestly as that show did.

A close second is Band of Brothers. Absolutely groundbreaking and better than anything on TV today. It absolutely holds up, and the ending where it reveals who each veteran was is so powerful and genuine. It was such a respectful telling of their story.

Honorable mention to The Pacific as well. I know these are all war dramas produced by HBO but I can’t help that they’re as good as they are. Just masterful quality all around.
