Centralised policies is like betting all your life savings in a single stock (or using WSB slang YOLO).
Decentralised policies is like having diversified portfolio of stocks.
Sure you can make tons of money YOLO your life savings on a single bet but, in the long term, odds are against you.
Every financially literate person knows that you are much better off having diversified portfolio of stocks. Ideally you should keep as different stocks as possible to reduce your correlation with index (like S&P 500).
Even if you claim to have special insight and sharp mind, you can only YOLO your own money and you definitely can’t force others to bet with you.
Yet, centralised governments are doing exactly that. Not only they claim to know the future but they also force others to go along with it.
In general, with a new virus, it’s literally impossible to know what works and what doesn’t. Neither governments nor scientists nor libertarians knows the answer.
It’s meaningless to argue against (or for) masks, vaccines and lockdowns. Even people who spent their life in the field don’t know precise answer.
The beauty and elegance of libertarian solution is that it doesn’t pretend to know the best solution for world’s problems.
Namely, in stateless capitalism, myriad of private jurisdictions will workout the most optimal solution in fully decentralised way (think of it as parallel computing vs sequential computing). It’s like continuous A/B testing. The market (aka hive mind) will find the most optimal response to COVID of any other problem. No single expert or group of experts behind closed doors can compete with hive mind of market.
Within private jurisdiction, there are no boundaries for creating rules. It’s fair to assume that jurisdictions with limitless and vague contracts will be driven out of competitive market. By contrary, the state operates in complete legal vacuum. The state can impose arbitrary rules for unlimited amount of time using principle one size fits all. In other words, the state is complete anarchy in the worst possible way.
In private jurisdiction, it’s unlikely to see protests against masks or vaccines. The owner of private jurisdiction can always say - did you read emergency section of our contract you just signed?
As you can see even if you assume the most benevolent government, centralised policy making doesn’t work. And now add to what I just said above good old power grab during crisis.
I have no opinion on COVID measures or climate change or whatever but I do know that nobody knows the future, people aren’t benevolent angels and the only logical solution is decentralisation.
Anybody who opposes decentralisation implicitly claims to know the future which is absolutely ridiculous position.
