A lot of TV shows, particularly comedies, will involve the main cast having relationships with guest stars for a few episodes where everything seems good until suddenly it is revealed that something is terribly wrong with the guest star or their relationship, usually just because they only intended to have that guest character for a few episodes.
It can be extremely jarring in some circumstances, my personal favorite is Drew Baird (Jon Hamm) in 30 Rock, a pediatrician that Liz (Tina Fey) falls for. At the end of his run it turns out that he’s a total idiot who has lived in a bubble for being handsome his entire life, when there were no hints of this before this episode. I also remember this happening with pretty much every relationship in the New Girl outside of the main cast. What are your favorite (or the most egregious) examples?
