The recent rankings by EA College Sports of the “Toughest Stadiums to Play” had me thinking again about the well known complaints at the Shoe of the complacent, drone like crowd, especially for noon games. If I had to be COMPELETELY honest, I don’t think we are a top 3 overall environment on MOST gamedays as the ranking suggests, coming from my experience as an undergrad student starting in 2016 to a masters student and season ticket holder today - attending a large majority of games. CONSISTENCY is defintiely an issue for Ohio State fans, due to a combination of expectations, noon games, crowd makeup, etc.
HOWEVER, I could still make a reasonable argument that PEAK horseshoe is top 3 in the country. I have been to most other Big Ten Stadiums, including Happy Valley, Ann Arbor, and Madison, and nothing still comes close to the 2016 2OT Michigan game crowd. Specifcally, after JT scored to go up 24-17 in the first overtime, Urban was running up and down the sidelines pumping up the crowd. I still remmeber a sharp pain in my ears from this moment and that 1st down play: (start at 2:24:54) video here
The rest of that series was deafining especially the 3rd and 4th down plays on the goal line. The only other time I really remmeber the Shoe being close to this was the comeback against PSU in 2017. The playoff game against Tennesee had its moments, but honestly there was too much orange on my side of the stadium to push it over the top when Tennesee had the ball.
With the above in mind, what would you say is the singular LOUDEST moment in your stadiums history or from any game from any stadium you’ve attendeded for that matter? - a play, a series, a drive at most. I am looking for peak volumn, not consistent loudness
