It is with deep regret and immense pain that the FPF learned, this morning, of the tragic accident that fatally victimized Diogo Jota and his brother, in Zamora, Spain. At this moment there is a lack of words and adjectives that qualify or quantify a loss thus underlined in the words of the president of the FPF, Dr. Pedro Proença:

“The Portuguese Football Federation and all Portuguese Football are completely devastated by the death of Diogo Jota and André Silva this morning in Spain. Much more than the fantastic player, with almost 50 internationalizations by the National Team A, Diogo Jota was an extraordinary person, respected by all colleagues and opponents, someone with a contagious joy and reference in the community itself.

On my behalf, and on behalf of the Portuguese Football Federation, I express my deepest condolences to the family and friends of Diogo and André Jota, as well as to Liverpool FC and FC Penafiel, the clubs where, respectively, the players lined up.

The Portuguese Football Federation has already asked UEFA for a minute of silence, this Thursday, before the match of our National Team with Spain, in the Women’s European Championship. We lost two champions. The disappearance of Diogo and André Silva represent irreparable losses for Portuguese Football and we will do everything to honor their legacy on a daily basis.”
