I just finished watching six hours of absolute garbage. So let’s discuss!

You may think I am being too harsh on it already, and that’s fair. But this is my opinion, so scroll if you don’t agree. I don’t need to fight pointless battles in the comments lol. But I do want to hear your thoughts!!

With that being said, these six episodes have been a snooze fest from start to finish. It’s sad. Really sad. I had such high hopes since S1 and S2 knocked it out of the park with their games. This just felt like an entirely different show, NOT a continuation like what it was supposed to be. The choices the characters make have no sense behind them, but I’ll do a deep dive on the characters soon. I’m just gonna list my frustrations with various aspects of the show.

PART 1 : The Ending

This whole thing just felt WRONG. Let’s start with the contestants. We only really know Gihun, the baby, MGCoin, Player 100 and Minsu. We know literally NOTHING of the other 4. This may not seem like a big problem, but it’s literally THE LAST GAME!! We should atleast have some KNOWLEDGE of these people without us having to find out their one character trait through the finale. Then we move onto the game, I have another part for this but can someone tell me, what EXACTLY is the children’s game they’re playing? A pushing one? Sky Squid Game isn’t a thing. When did we normalize NOT playing children’s games and instead this social dynamics bullshirt. It makes me so mad. They had SO many options, hell they could even reuse Squid Game ( if it was a final two, like it should’ve been ) but they decide on this pushing shirtshow game. It was boring. Start to finish. If they wanted to add social dynamics to another game, then do so. They clearly could, like with duck duck goose or something. You get the idea. Choosing someone to die isn’t interesting. The orignal Squid Game challenge suffered from a lack of entertainment the other games had, but atleast it caught our attention with a battle we were waiting to see all season long. Nobody asked or needed to see Gihun and MGCoin fight. Nobody did. This wasn’t the end-all be-all battle we wanted to see. Next, the ACTUAL ending. I don’t have much problem with this, mostly cause I skipped majority of it because the platform shirtshow push battle was not fun to watch and ruined my mood. I just wish this series had a different outcome. I don’t need a happy ending to make the series complete, but blowing up the island just didn’t have the effect it should’ve. If it was in my hands, I’d want to completely end the Korean game, blowing up the island and everyone in it, but alas I am not the director. Also the part at the end tying Squid Game USA was so obvious I literally predicted it. Shame on you, we wanted a good ending and all we got was this piece of shirt. Also WHY did Inho live? Genuinely. It’s baffling how many “bad guys” lived and how many “good” guys died.

PART 2 : The Characters

Im not gonna spend too much time on each, but many of these characters suffered from chronic dumbness. I’ll start with the main character, Gihun. I liked seeing him so broken after the rebellion. That kind of character arc is fun. But please don’t bullshirt me and say he actually had the balls to kill Daeho. Gihun is NOT a killer. We knew this in the first game, and we knew this now? But they made the STUPID choice to have him do it anyway. I just don’t understand. Not at all. It made 0 sense for his character. He should’ve been on the blue team or have something happen to make him advance. Do better. Next, Junho. The stupidest man alive. I will admit, part of this is not his fault. But you think, he would’ve catched on sooner or atleast ENTERTAINED the idea when that one guy ( forgot his name ) talked about his suspicions against Captain Park. He just shoved it off for NO reason? Junho just doesn’t give up like that. He’s not the type of person to do that. He doesn’t let his emotions guide him, hence why he shot the frontman in season one. But they just do a reverse on this?? It would’ve been SO much better if he actually LISTENED despite his admiration towards the Captain. So, Squid Game you fail again. Make characters have better choices. Next, Daeho and Hyunju. I firmly believe Daeho was not supposed to die there. It made no sense. I get it, Gihun HAD to kill someone to advance… but did he? You could’ve just put him on blue or made him pass the game anyway. The Frontman clearly wanted to prove a point by putting him back in the game. Daeho should’ve stayed alive to be given a redemption arc. Maybe sacrificing himself for Gihun or the baby? Idk. All I know was that he wasn’t winning but he should atleast be given a chance to redeem himself. Hyunju felt like such a letdown. I get why she died, as she had no plot relevance anymore but it felt so wasteful. There is always something else to do with your characters. I will give Squid Game this, atleast they stayed true to her actual personality and made her die in a very HER way to die, ( sacrificing herself to save others ) it was just a shame since I loved her. Next the granny and her son. I honestly wouldn’t change a thing about the granny’s story arc. Yes, having her kill herself was so wasteful and predictable, but I don’t absolutely hate it. I think it’s fine to mirror some part of season one to two, I just wish she was more visibly depressed so it made more sense why she did it, although we all know why she did. Now her son, killing the pregnant woman just… isn’t him. I get he’s desperate, but I don’t think he’s THAT desperate. Just doesn’t seem like him to me. I am satisfied how he died ( sorta ) with his mother. Fine by me I guess. Next MGCoin and Pregnant Lady. I think MGCoin could’ve gotten a redemption arc too. Maybe all he actually cared about was the money, we’ll never know. But it got cut short when he killed Hyunju. I think that was a mistake. Pregnant lady, I do think she died at the appropriate time, but I would’ve loved to see her get to the end with her baby. Also, maybe not commit suicide. I would’ve liked to see her atleast attempt the jump rope, even if it killed her with Gihun helping.

PART 3 : The Fruckass Baby

The baby. Oh my god. The baby. This little shirt needs her own part. I am so upset by how they handled the baby. We only met this baby IN THIS SEASON. We have no relation to this baby, and we have much more characters that we care about. This baby ate so much screen time and was involved in basically everything. I STILL don’t get why she was registered as a player. Did they forget their own rules? You have to sign a consent form to play in the game. The baby didn’t do that. The baby was in Junhees stomach and DIDNT do that. The baby shouldn’t have been in the games and should have been left in the dormitory or taken out of the game. There was no logical decision to put the baby in the games. ESPECIALLY if you are preaching fairness. The baby didn’t ask to come, nor did it want to come. The frontman should’ve taken the baby out. I mean… duh. If anybody could’ve or should’ve, he should’ve. I get why she was kept in, for the VIPS entertainment but even they didn’t want her there. Literally made no sense and this season is full of contradictions like this.

PART 4 : The Games

I had a real issue with majority of these games. The first game, Hide and Seek. Fine. That’s okay I guess, plus the set is cool and having the different perspectives on how to solve it is fine aswell. Jump Rope. This is just a bad version of Glass Bridge. Atleast in Glass Bridge, you KNEW people would die. Here, everybody could win. I hated this game. Especially how many people survived it. Nine? Nine players? It doesn’t seem like a proper game. The only thing I slightly liked was the guy pushing the people who came across to the other side. That was a strategy I wanted to see watching Glass Bridge, and Im happy we sorta got it. The rest is bad though. Just a clone of Glass Bridge with less interesting characters. I already talked about Sky Squid Game, so let me not drag it out too long but this sucked. Not a children’s game and not even entertaining. I like the idea in theory, it just was boring. The set wasn’t eyecatching either. If you hide a challenge from the trailer it better well be past our expectations cause this sucked.

I’ve already been writing this for too long, but this show literally has taken six hours of my life I’ll never get back. I am so disappointed and angry at how it ended and just how everything happened. So many missed opportunities. Can we honestly just forget this season happened and only remember season one and two? This season sucked.

Anyways, my negative parade is done. I swear I liked some stuff about this season but it’s just really disappointing how they handled a lot of stuff. Let me if you feel the same way or disagree!

Also posting here cause I can’t post on the main sub and idk why.

( EDIT : If you have a different opinion and you liked Season three, great. I’m happy that you liked it. But this is a post dragging season three so idk why you would expect otherwise? )
