METHODOLOGY

Link to more detailed writeup on our methodology

  • Step 1: A Call to Rankers right after the Conference Championship games
  • Step 2: Rankers from each team nominated players to rank, with a 11 game minimum threshold. Players are associated with the team they played for in 2024
  • Step 3: The Grind. We instructed users to tier positions groups into T25, T50, etc based on 2024 regular season play only. This took several weeks as the rankers tiered each position group and discussed them. There were no individual player threads and no arbitrary position caps. Just questions and rankings.
  • Step 4: Users submitted their own personal Top 125 lists.
  • Step 5: User lists were reviewed by myself and u/mattkud . The rankers were expected to answer questions about their lists. They were allowed to make any changes to their list, and were not forced to make any changes
  • Step 6: The Reveal… where we are now!

And without further ado, here are the players ranked 30-21 in the r/NFL Top 100 Players of the 2024 Season!

Xavier McKinney finds himself tied at 29th with another safety (not sure why, other rankers are clearly idiots). The former 2nd round pick absolutely flourished since leaving New York, delivering on the hype.

X was not only the Packers best last season, but was arguably the best in his position this season. The majority seem to agree, with X earning his first 1st team All Pro nod.

X almost doubled his career interception tally, totalling 8 on the year (good for 2nd best in the league) as well as 3 pass breakups. He was fantastic in coverage, only allowing 25 receptions from 36 throws (69.4%) for 311 yards (12.4 yards a catch), and notably not allowing a single TD scored on him this season. Let’s not look at him in the slot though (14 receptions from 17 throws for 180 yards). X stuck to his man in tackles, making 62 tackles and 21 assists with only 5 misses. He rarely lined up in the slot (only 13 snaps) but managed one sole, sexy sack.

X will only be 26 when next season kicks off. In Year 6 of his career (year 2 in the Green Bay), there’s no reason why he can’t cement himself as one of the league’s premier defensive players and a cornerstone in defence for the Packers, as well as boost himself up higher in these rankings.

#t-29 - Kerby Joseph - Detroit Lions - Safety

As the NFL’s passing game has evolved in this century, it has become increasingly hard for defenders to rack up interceptions - particularly safeties. It was common back in the 2000s to see a Safety top the INT leaderboard and often multiple would rack up 7+ in a season. Prior to 2024, we haven’t had a S grab more than 7 picks since Kevin Byard nabbed 8 in 2017. Enter Kerby Joseph. Joseph picked off 9 passes in 2024, a throwback to the old age where safeties spent their Sundays ballhawking. And this isn’t just a 1 year wonder - only 1 S post 2000 has more interceptions in their first 3 seasons than Joseph’s 17. Obviously, that’s Ed Reed. Pretty lofty company to keep.

But the job of a S in today’s game is much more complicated than simply picking off poor QBs. You’ve got to be a reliable tackler, especially if you play deep. Kerby only missed 5 tackles on over 1000 defensive snaps in 2024. You need to be able to play the run. Kerby plays deep more often than in the box, but even with a more limited sample, his ability to defend the run was still on display whether it was filling a hole or beating blockers to the spot and making the stop. You’ll be asked to play man coverage. Kerby allowed only 95 yards on 344 man coverage snaps. Basically whatever hat you asked Kerby to wear in 2024, he wore in style.

Kerby Joseph’s 2024 was a dominant FS performance. He didn’t miss tackles, he was tight in coverage, and he defended the run well. And above all else, he was a ballhawking nightmare for QBs. That’s why he earned a well deserved first team All pro nod.

#28 - Brock Bowers - Las Vegas Raiders - Tight End

Originally people thought taking a tight end so early was a wasted pick however after having the greatest rookie TE season of all time, any doubts have disappeared and we can safely say the Raiders have a generational talent in their books.

As a rookie, he put up 112 catches for 1,194 yards and 5 TDs, which is just absurd for a tight end let alone one in his first NFL season. For context, no rookie wide receiver has EVER had that many catches. Bowers came in and instantly looked like a top-5 TE in the league.

He was basically the focal point of the offense from Week 1. Lined up everywhere, at slot, out wide, in-line and thoroughly cooked defenders all year. Linebackers couldn’t keep up, safeties couldn’t bring him down, and he showed the uncanny ability to always be open. This wasn’t just a rookie hotspot of flashes of brilliance, it was 17 games of consistent dominance.

He ended up being named First-Team All-Pro (as a rookie) and made the 2024 Pro Bowl, which is insane when you think about how long it usually takes TEs to develop. The position is notoriously tough for rookies to transition into, but Bowers made it look easy.

What’s wild is there’s still room for growth. Year 2 is setting up even better: upgraded QB play, better offensive weapons around him, and a play-caller who actually knows how to scheme guys open. If he stays healthy, we’re probably looking at a 1,300+ yard season and double-digit TDs and a quick return to this list.

#27 - Joe Thuney - Kansas City Chiefs - Offensive Guard

Joe Thuney had the most unique 2025 of any offensive lineman in the NFL, and potentially any player in the league. Heralded and established as one of the absolute best lineman in football and potentially the top guard for years, Thuney mid-season had to pivot from LG to LT as the Chiefs faced massive issues with a rotation of young options there that rendered the Chiefs dropback game unviable at times in certain situations. A true leader and someone who has a history of moving all over the line and excelling at that, Thuney did not complain, admirably slotting right in and being a solid left tackle. Thuney is a player with athletic limitations at tackle, particularly in his length, but even at his age he was able to defy those odds before the Super Bowl. Thuney gave the Chiefs a solution they desperately needed. Prior to being moved, Thuney was perhaps convincingly the best guard in football.

Thuney is as technically refined as it gets. While not physically dominating, Thuney plays with such superb leverage and squareness in the run and the pass that make losses rare. He is able to displace or neutralize very high level defensive linemen with profound consistency. So much of Thuney’s play is teach tape. Watch how he stays square on the lineman and continues to drive even as the linemen adjusts the path. Elite guard play isn’t always noted for the pass protection skills, but that is where Thuney separates himself at the position. He possesses extremely rare recovery traits, able to win an absurd amount of reps from …
