Now that I have a full ranking for all FBS programs, we can officially determine the strength of the rumored FBS conference alignments using past SOR data from 2014-2025.

Strength of Record: “Reflects chance that an average Top 25 team would have team’s record or better, given the schedule.” Schedule includes things like home or away, as well as distance traveled. It’s a computer resume ranking, and it correlates well with the AP Poll and CFP Top 25. It evaluates your resume based off of who you beat/lose to.

Here is my full 134 team ranking.

Pac-12 commissioner Gould said that “We are in a lane of our own, and the metrics support that. We’re closer to the ACC and Big 12 than to the other folks.”

While this WAS the case when the Pac-12 only had 7 members, adding Texas State drags the conference down a TON. The Pac-12 is clearly the best G6 conference, but it’s still, at the end of the day, clearly a G6 conference, even if it’s the best G6 conference.

Other takeaways:

-The SEC is still the best conference in the sport from top to bottom

-The top 9 of the Big Ten is similar to the top 9 of the SEC in these rankings, but the bottom of the Big Ten weighs it down

-The Big 12 is better than the ACC right now, but it doesn’t have a top level program like Clemson. It’s still a good conference though, and it has a ton of parity.

-The AAC and Sun Belt are neck and neck, and they, along with the Pac-12, are the cream of the crop for the G6.

-The MAC, CUSA, and MWC are virtually indistinguishable in terms of team strength.
