Just finished the shield and I’m floored that this show isn’t mentioned more. I was hesitant to watch honestly because I thought the idea of Chiklis as a badass rouge cop was silly. The first episode is a masterpiece in story telling that hooked me immediately by putting its foot straight on the gas. The thread of that story remains a constant and present threat for seven seasons while finding a way to continually up the stakes. Every guest appearance is delivered masterfully and it’s obvious the guests from Glenn Close to Anthony Anderson to Forrest Whitaker among others were invested in these rolls. The ending is simultaneously ambiguous and closed ended imo. We don’t know how Vic’s story ends but he lost everything he was fighting for and that’s all that really matters.
