Having watched behind the scenes videos of both Saturday Night Live and The Daily Show, I’m just floored at how coordinated and chaotic both productions actually are and what needs to go right for all of it to make it to air.
Saturday Night Live is shot live once a week for 90 minutes with sketches that require set production, rehearsal, animations, music, sets for musical guest performances, scripts and re-writes, etc.
The Daily Show is filmed (not live but they don’t do re-takes) five days a week in a 30 min time slot that requires ingesting news from the day (even as late as 1 hour to taping) and churning it into jokes, monologues, video clippings, and other correspondent sketches, as well as prep for interviews to close the show.
Which of these two shows, do you believe, is more difficult to pull off?
