Obviously, people in the past had different values, as such the moral messages given in TV shows were also quite different. Some of the messages of those older shows stood the test of time (environmentalism, fascism is bad, sexism is bad, racism is bad) but others not so much (a wife’s place is in the kitchen, jingoism is good, the Confederates were fighting for a noble cause, Manifest Destiny was good, video games are bad). These old-timey (or not so old) values seem odd to us now, but we mostly accept that it was a different time and move on, but if we saw the same moral in a modern show most wouldn’t be too keen.

So what old shows had messages that many modern audiences would disagree with?
