The Larry Sanders Show didn’t really have an original premise even back when it first came out but you can definitely tell how its style and writing would go on to influence shows such as Curb Your Enthusiasm, 30 Rock, and Hacks
I enjoy the performances, characters, and, as someone who works in entertainment, albeit in web production, I do relate to this show
But there are two things that hold me back from loving it:
1.)It is really slowly paced. Those other shows have much snappier editing so, if an episode overall is weak or average, its slow pacing can really drag the show out
2.)It has one or two settings. Most of it takes place either at the studio. Early episodes would take place either in the studio and Larry’s house but it was moved just to the studio and occasionally we will get another setting if the story calls for it. This may be pedantic but this makes me feel claustrophobic
So yeah I admire The Larry Sanders Show for the shows it no doubt influenced but in my opinion those shows took its style and really developed it further
