A couple years ago I volunteered with a community adaptive swim project with my mom. We essentially spent time in the pool with people with a variety of ages and disabilities.

I’ve always felt incredibly uncomfortable in a one piece swimsuit so I once wore swim shorts and swimming specific sport bra. My mom proceeded to yell at me and send me home rather than allow me to work with my kid(who also went home because he’s autistic and I’d spent weeks developing a routine with him).

Why did my mom have this reaction? Are shorts and a sport bra really THAT inappropriate or was my mom over reacting?

Just for context, at the time my mom bought all my clothes so she obviously didn’t think they were “slutty” or “disgusting”. She does have a history of inconsistent, inappropriate, or controlling behaviors particularly when it comes to her daughters but sometimes she’s right.
