I hope this doesn’t upset anyone I’m just feeling a bit weird about this. I’m 38 M African American. I can’t watch shows like girlfriends or insecure and I can watch things like HIMYM. My friends all think I’m just sadly confused but honestly I can’t stand shows that trade on peoples demographics like most predominantly black/latino etc shows do. Example take a show like Seinfeld. It’s a show about nothing certainly not being white. They are just white, it’s a funny show. Let’s compare it to a show like insecure it’s all about being black, tge George Lopez show all about being a Latino, show like rami dont do this a lot but a lot of shows that star an all one ethnicity or another cast are constantly mentioning: I’m this, I’m that. Now there are exceptions the cosby show, Martin I mean they did it but Martin was funny ah, different world, fresh prince also did it but not to tge extreme. But most shows that are supposedly for us by us are based around racial identity. I just wanna watch tv a lot of times. I don’t need to be reminded of my blackness. My friends act like I’m spitting on mlk grave. So Am I wrong or maybe I’m just seeing things in the wrong light ?
