For ten years now I’ve been posting write-ups to /r/CFB after watching an upcoming Oregon opponent’s full season, and I’ve been delighted with the responses to my questions that I get from fans of each team. Four years ago I started writing for SB Nation’s Oregon site, Addicted to Quack, but I’ve continued to post them here along with my questions for fans. Here’s my review of Texas Tech:

  1. Any trends I’ve missed, or players I’m being unfair to?
  2. Is there a power-RPO component like Lincoln Riley’s that I’ve missed in all those gap schemes and flanker screens that Kittley is using? I’ve tried to find a connection on film or statistically but it’s eluded me.
  3. Thoughts on Shough vs Morton?
  4. I like Brooks and Valdez as backs for what they do but I think Texas Tech misses what Thompson brought in terms of improvisation, I think it was a necessary component to the run game. Is that overstating it?
  5. What are you expecting out of Bradley and Fouonji this year?
  6. Why did Mills and Rogers flip spots? I saw some staff discussion in the A-J of Buchanan or Keeler taking one of their jobs midseason last year, which kind of shocked me with how open it was. And do I understand correctly that eight scholarship o-linemen transferred out and just one, Staats, transferred in? What’s up with that?
  7. I spent some time trying to figure out if not going to the bear front was a one-off strategic move or about less confidence in the new rotational DTs behind Bradford and Hutchings. What do you think?
  8. What’s your opinion about the linebacker shuffle? I was very surprised about moving Pierre from OLB to ILB and not taking an ILB transfer, for example, were you?
  9. Now that Owens is no longer the dime / backup deep safety but the fulltime starter, does Texas Tech have a dime package? Who would the sixth guy be if they wanted to put him on the field, would it be both of the new nickels (Baskerville and Jordan) at once?
  10. Do you think my confusion about Dunlap and Williams is warranted? Do you think the CB room has taken a step forward? Any word on McCarty?
