So I stopped watching TV years ago, and was never much of a TV addict. I grew up with the Simpsons, watched The O.C. and really liked Gossip Girl.

Nowadays, albeit the very rare docco-like show such as “Home” on Apple TV+ or sci-fi like Severence, I’m neck deep in other hobbies and full-time family. TV just kind of got phased out for me when it became hard to find things that genuinely felt like there was a lot of effort put into them.

However, after moving countries I found myself staying with extended family for a period of about 1 month whilst getting a place of my own. I found myself living with a family member who spends practically 10 whole hours a day glued to Netflix. It doesn’t matter if it’s some terrorist plot English dub from the middle-east, a British PI investigation drama, American home improvement show or a stand-up comedy gig he watches. All I hear downstairs at full volume on their soundbar is “F this, F that, F you, F off, you C word, b word, piss off, go to hell, F yourself, kiss my ass, etc” the absolute most common being some variant of the F word.

I counted the amount of just F bombs in one random episdode he watched and there were 96. 96 just f word related curses in like 26 minutes. That’s close to 4 a minute… and this was just something I did off the cuff whilst he was watching something. It seems like every single show these days has some pissed off, angry white dude with a chip on his shoulder cursing his head off every 12 seconds.

Is this just something exclusive to Netflix? I pretty much only have AppleTV. Years ago I had Disney+ and well there’s no cursing there on anything. I don’t care for cursing if it’s sporadic or used in the right time but this amount of cursing stands out so much I can’t understand how anything would be enjoyable. It just feels like super lazy writing. People I know don’t swear this much in real life, so this isn’t even realistic. My family member used to be addicted to documentaries and movies. I think he’s watched more than 1000 movies but now it’s just TV 10 hours a day. All of it with cursing.

So is this TV now?
