I absolutely loved the UK series ‘Ghosts’ and when I discovered there was a nascent US version I was doubtful that it would offer the same magic. And it doesn’t. Which is a good thing. It goes down a different path and I think that serves it well. Like the UK/US Office, they have similarities but they have fundamentally different styles.
I had a false start and watched the first 10 minutes of the US pilot episode and thought it was a weak mimic of the UK series. I then went away and didn’t come back to it for a while, and when I did I gave it more of a chance and after the first few episodes the series started to get its confidence, drift away from the UK series waypoints, and explore new concepts. And it can really be quite poignant at times without being too saccharine. And I like the venture into more adult humour.
I don’t know what other fans of ‘Ghosts’ think but I’m half way through the second season and really enjoying it. I think the writers they have are doing a good job with a generally solid cast; Rebecca Wisocky and Brandon Scott Jones are excellent as Hetty and Isaac respectively.
