Original Title: [Canzano & Wilner] Chris Petersen on NIL - “We went from NCAA Compliance Officers reviewing the menu and guest list at a pancake breakfast to coaches raising money so someone else can pay the players but the university not being allowed to pay the player directly. It makes no sense either way.”
“We went from one system that didn’t make sense to a different system that didn’t make sense really fast. I remember at Boise St. I had a player that liked to crotchet of all things, and he made like 15 or 20 hats out of school colors while we were on school trips and he wanted to sell them for charity but we had the NCAA telling us don’t do that. The system never made a lick of sense, but what’s crazy to me is that how quickly we went from that system to the one we have now. Coaches can spend all day raising money for someone else to pay a guy to go to their program and you see that happening.”
