i was sampling some shots today from Andor season 2 after watching the complete season last week and to me it stand out the most, is the great Cinematography.
it is very clear that actually the people who created this, actually cared about it. mostly these days no one gives a fuck. you have these very expensive tv series and they look so bad.
Daredevil, Skeleton crew, Last of us, Penguin all have this shaky cam disaster and you can not even focus on something before the camera is going all places. or it is a complete blur fest, were the backgrounds are completely ruined and all we see is the camera focus on faces and destroy all background detail.
but with Andor there is lot of detail in the scenes. not everything is constantly focused on faces. but you can actually watch the backgrounds, you see rust on spaceships. in some living rooms you see scratches and dirt. then there is lot of detail in outdoor shots. the best shot i liked was the evening shot were mon mothma entered the building from her spaceship. it reminded me a lot of blade runner, so much detail.
also on the robots, there is difference in detail. scratches etc. even when they are the same, you can still see differences.
and the battle in later episodes was most of times actually watchable. sure there was little bit of shaky cam here and there, but still mostly was good visible action. now compared that to the battle of the last season of wheels of times, where you could not see anything, because of the shaky cam garbage.
How Andor is shot, that is what i expect, when watching these very expensive tv series. little bit of shaky cam, if there is no other option, not constantly blurry backgrounds and lot of scenery details.
so even Andor was not a slam dunk for Disney, at least i hope they will continue like this , giving us shows with great Cinematography.
