I know this is a constantly discussed topic every year now but I’ve seen multiple comments recently mentioning if the world is (yet again) experiencing “superhero / fantasy genre fatigue” because of shows like The Wheel Of Time getting cancelled.
I don’t think the audiences have a problem with any genre in particular. They are just fatigued with bad to mediocre writing / storytelling which is a feat in itself because most of the IPs already have a complete written blueprint to draw from (not you, George!).
To this day, it actually amazes me how some literary works loved by tens of millions can be turned into mediocre slop at the hands of someone who thinks they know better than the original author.
I know that translating something from book pages to the screen is not a simple task… but then you just need to spend some time looking for the right team who understands the property and is able to handle it. But it feels like in the current streaming climate, time is something none of the big studios want to invest.
