so are they deliberately adding @hexbear to their usernames? you don’t have to have the same username on other instances so i’m not sure how you’d be able to identify hexbear users switching servers.

If their username has @hexbear.net it means they are posting from hexbear via federation, not with an account on lemm.ee.
