Tua Tagovailoa appeared dazed when a Buffalo Bills player pushed him on his back last September and his head hit the turf. He even fell over while jogging back to the huddle. After a brief absence and undergoing concussion protocol, Tagovailoa was back in the game. Four days later, he played and almost got seriously hurt. Z Marquis, a college-level soccer player, didn’t even fall, and he didn’t hit his head. And yet the debilitating effects of his concussion have kept him mostly out of action for a year and a half. Marquis’ story offers lessons of not only how you have to heed the warning signs of a concussion but also how tough it is to fight off the urge to keep playing, a narrative we also saw play out with Tagovailoa last season. I am interested to know your thoughts on this story in light of what we saw with Tua.
