So I went down a little rabbit hole here while rewatching a few parts of yesterday’s game and wanted to look at total amount of chances Ohio State’s offense actually had to score.

Defensively Ohio State very pretty well, holding Indiana to 3 points and just 8 first downs.

While Ohio State struggled to find some momentum and/or groove on offense, this should amount to a good amount of chances for the offense. Instead Ohio State had fewer offensive drives (10) than they did a year ago in a 21-7 win against Northwestern (12 offensive drives).

I was curious to see just how quickly these rules make a difference, and for a young offense trying to find a rhythm against a conference opponent early in the season, it makes a big difference.

It looks like Chip Kelly and the rest of the offensive minded coaches need to continue to speak up about these rules that were created to provide more commercial time, and fewer possessions for everyone.
