A company wanted to hire me recently. They wanted me to give them an answer right away.

I tried to buy time in getting back to them because it was a major life decision and I was also waiting for another company’s results. I asked them if I could get back to them the day after and they said, “No, now!”

I held firm to getting back to them the day after. As soon as I accepted the job offer the next day, they told me that they went with another candidate.

Reflecting on this, I kind of realized that I probably wouldn’t have enjoyed working in such a pushy environment. I had a bad feeling about accepting the job offer and the more I reflect on it, the more I realized that I would’ve hated myself for accepting the job offer. The general feeling that I got was that my livelihood didn’t matter and that I can’t refuse anything.

What do you think? Have you accepted pushy job offers before? How did it turn out for you?
