It was a spinoff of a British show by the same name that premiered in 08 starring Jason O’Mara as a NYPD Detective who is struck by a car and suddenly wakes up as himself, but living in the 1970s. It was cancelled after a season, but it had a nice little wrap up and 18 solid episodes of 70s-era fun.

I’m a fan of O’Mara, even though everything he is in gets cancelled, but it’s Harvey Keitel as precinct Captain and Michael Imperioli as another Detective that make the show really worth watching. They both chew up the scenery in kind of a homage to 70s Police Movies and TV Show Cops with their affinity for beating answers out of suspects and open disdain for anyone in a skirt.

It’s one season, but a solid 18 episodes that have a lot of comedy, some good heartfelt moments, and a ton of great music. It was a network show, and more episodic than not, but it wasn’t a procedural. The “fish out of water/man of time” thing is always a fun trope, and they took care to match the cinematography to really give it that 70s era vibe.

As far as the ending, it took a different more controversial route from the UK version, but I personally preferred it. If the show had been given a 2nd or 3rd season I think an ending a little closer to the UK version would have been warranted, but with being cut short, this was a fun way to go. It’s on Prime currently, if you want to check it out.
