Now, I know genuine Libertarians support American businesses and are generally pro-small business in particular; but, what I have seen very little discussion on is how most other Libertarians feel about protectionism.

On the one hand, protectionism allows for the opportunity for American businesses to bloom but on the other, it hurts the consumers of imported goods. Although, on the other hand, a lack of protectionism breeds opportunities for globalization. I'm aware that some Libertarians are in favor of Free Trade, but all that I have witnessed from a lack of protective tariffs is inefficiency and an undermining of aspects of a nation's sovereignty.

What are your takes, though? And what would your arguments be for or against protectionism?

EDIT: You will have to forgive my seeming ignorance as I've only in the last year become interested in Libertarianism and only within the last few months moving to the Capitalist end of that spectrum.
