It’s been a while since I watched a good medical tv show and seeing how people are positive about The Pitt I watched the first episode to check the show out.
Full disclosure, I have no medical background and I leave all the realistic medical stuff to the people who are experts about this.
It’s been less than five minutes into the episode and I remember how much I hate slow paced introduction. It can be satisfying when it’s done good but in this case, this is very stale and uninteresting. I don’t remember how many times I said ‘I don’t give a shit’ in the first five minutes of the show.
When the first patient comes in camera transitions into POV of a med student which sounds good on paper but in reality, it just gives a mild case of nausea.
Forced dialogue peaks at minute 14 before a cop shows up. Arguing and bickering about non sense. Again it could be realistic on paper but in practice, it’s just annoying at best.
Then another form of arguing and bickering starts to show us who really cares about the patients. Who would’ve guessed it’s our boy the main character.
And we have our first antagonist figure who disagrees with our boy, mr. good guy and it’s like they are trying to teach kindergarten kids who is a good person who is a bad person.
STOP TREATING YOUR VIEWERS LIKE CHILD
It’s like I’m watching Dr.cox and chief of medicine Dr.Kelso arguing about the ethics of medicine but not in a good way.
Get on with a story already ffs.
Med student down scene: Are they really ripping off the Scrubs already?
You could expect med student to faint in their first days and as scrubs already explored this in humorous ways. This show trying the same thing while it’s trying to be more ‘serious’ and ‘realistic’ tv show. Med students can get a head trauma like any other person why are you reacting this way?
And of course we are back to being serious again. She says she is fine but we are approaching things realistic now.
This show really needs to pick a lane already.
Are we sure that the writers of the show were in the same page about what direction they were going to take this show?
The show finally gets back on the right track with the V tach arrest patient(runner) and this is how this show supposed to feel.
And we are back to ripping of other shows. At minute 21. Ladies and gentlemen, I introduce you to
DR HOUSE!!!
And we are back to another round of forced dialogue. 30K for a kidney is good to know though.
From there on the show goes in and back it’s like the part of the show is written by a decent writer and other parts are written by some street corner junkie.
TLDR: The show was a huge letdown in the first episode due to the inconsistency of the writing and storytelling.
Not sure if I can waste more of my time with this but if this show has almost 9 points out of 10 on imdb it better get good otherwise I lose all my hope for humanity.
