I (22f) occasionally hangout with my roommate (21f) and we normally exchange clothes like sisters. Sometimes it’s just a small accessory that pulls our looks together. Over the past month she’s gained a noticeable amount of weight, it isn’t horrible, she’s just a tad thicker. She asked if she could borrow one of my skirts over the weekend and I told her she’s starting to stretch out my clothes and I didn’t want to lend them to her anymore.

She denied gaining weight so I let her try on my skirt to prove it was too tight. She had to jump to get it up past her hips and walking looked uncomfortable. We got into a debate because she tried making me see that it wasn’t as bad as I said. Finally I told her to take them off and it didn’t matter what reason I have for not letting her wear my clothes. I said my bottoms were off limit but some of my tops and accessories are still fine for her to lend. She looked like she took extreme offense to what I said so I tried softening the blow with “obviously it was never about the skirt but for your need to fit in the skirt and feel skinny but you shouldn’t do that because you still look good” something along those lines but that was the general message.

I find out today that she told our other roommate and a couple of her friends that I was shaming her for gaining weight and basically saying I called her fat when I never did. She was making me out to be a bad person and I only found out because our other roommate thought it was funny hearing her complain about me when I’m the most easy going person they know.

AITA?
