I think the government's response to the pandemic is a strong indication of what we would see in a world with universal basic income given that the government's (temporarily halted) boosted unemployment benefits and stimulus effectively provided a UBI in line with what many people have discussed.
What are the results? Well, let's just state the obvious for one.
- Rampant inflation due to free money
- Unskilled jobs are going unfilled, preventing everyone from receiving basic services in many industries
- Rents are skyrocketing
- Government debt is skyrocketing
- Material prices, which are correlated with entry-level wages, continue to remain high despite supply chains coming back online
Yet this will all be blamed on capitalism and not a word spoken about the socialist policies that caused this.
