Improbable stuff happens in shows all the time, but sometimes the coincidences feel so contrived when you have too many of them and they’re each quite improbable on their own. They’re not plot holes, but they still push your suspension of disbelief a bit.
For example, in Breaking Bad, Walter White decides to allow Jesse’s girlfriend Jane die of an overdose instead of helping her because he’s mad that she’s getting in the way of his plans. Walter later actually meets Jane’s grieving father in a bar. Jane’s father is so depressed that he later screws up at his job as an air traffic controller so badly that he causes two planes to crash into each other over Albuquerque. A lot of the debris of said planes then end up crashing into Walter’s own house. That’s just too many coincidences.
With some shows like Lost you can at least justify it with stuff like “destiny” or supernatural forces, but in more grounded shows it feels like too much.
What other huge coincidences in TV shows bothered you?
