This is what I hated about the last seasons of Barry and Succession. At the beginning both were very black comedies that firmly realized their roots in satire and did not take their characters seriously. But in the last season for both shows, things took a turn for the much worse. Everyone had to be suddenly regarded as real.
It all became nauseatingly pretentious and unpersuasive.
Seinfeld had it right when it insisted their characters would learn nothing from the final episode of the show.
What other shows display this disturbing trend, what’s up with that?
