So I was out for drinks with some friends and I’m mid to late 20’s but because of my height and genetics I look late teens/ very early 20’s at a push cause I’m under 5ft tall and just very petite. I have had some guys before asking me out, ask to see my ID because I look that young, which I respect. I’m the type to go to places and get given a child’s ticket just automatically. So I’m stood at the bar and this bloke comes walking over, I’d say late 40’s and starts trying to get my attention. I avoid because I can tell by first glimpse it’s not going to go well. He finally angles himself to where I can no longer ignore and I do what people often refer to as the polite/ awkward smile. He takes that as a chance to get chatting and I’ll relay the conversation. ID for inappropriate dickhead and Me for me.

ID: you’re looking a bit cheeky tonight

Me: confused face excuse me?

ID: you’re looking a bit cheeky, with those red lips.

Me: oh … me desperately trying to catch a bartenders eye so I can leave

He then gradually went whiter than white, chuckled awkwardly expecting me to be joking, then when realised I wasn’t and just kept glaring at him he just stood there awkwardly and then turned his back on me.

What is wrong with some of them? What’s so intrinsically broken in some of them that a man, the same age as my parents thought that this was appropriate at all?! I just don’t understand. Did he really think that he’d get laid that way? I’m in the UK so we can drink from 18, so for all he knew he was saying that to an 18 year old. It genuinely baffles me to my very core. It’s only recently that I’ve had the confidence to deal with men this way, I’ve always just been a people pleaser to avoid getting myself murdered but I’ve had enough. I’ve had too many horrible experiences and they’re just so blatant about it. I know there’s some good ones out there but why aren’t there more? What’s wrong with society that this is deemed acceptable?

Sorry for the rant, I just can’t wrap my head around it.
