Does anyone notice that lots of everyday socialists, aka the friends around us who are socialists, generally reject the idea of individuals helping individuals, the supposed defining attribute of socialism? I can say that most of my socialist friends, if you were to say that you were going to pay their rent for a month or pay a bill or even buy them dinner, would have a cow and say that that's totally not necessary and that they sometimes seem insulted that you'd dare buy something for them.
And yet they are socialists. They would be happy for the government to extort me of my money to pay for their food, rent, etc. but the idea of me as an individual and friend offering to do exactly that is unnecessary and possibly insulting.
It honestly makes me further entrenched in the idea that socialism is less about allocating everyone's resources equally and helping fellow humans and more about class warfare and taking from those socialists have been taught are the super wealthy/banes of society.
