We all appreciate the work /u/jimbobbypaul did this off season. I thought it may be interesting to see the data presented in a few different ways.

The first thing I did was to plot the data using the conferences as they exist in the 2023 season. I just used the highest ranked team to order them but we got a nice P5 and G5 grouping.

This is the same ranking with the conferences in the same order but with how the conferences will exist in 2025. You can really see how tight the new Big 12 is. We don’t know that it will be a blood bath every year with 10-3 conference champs but it may be something to watch.

For some statistical fun, I decided to make some Box and Whisker plots of the data. If you have not seen them, it is a quick way to show the max value, the top quarter, the bottom quarter and the minimum value. The filled in box is the middle 50% or the “meat” of the conference. The line is the median or the 50% (half of the teams are better and half are worse). The X shows the average which is more impacted by extreme values high or low.

I know it is hard to compare with so much going on so I also made some before and after plots.

Finally, I wanted to make some scatterplots of the top 50 teams. Often folks in r/dataisbeautiful will show marathon times by year so you can the progression. I thought we may see something interesting as well. I also made a plot of the teams with the season length adjustment.

Thank you to /u/jimbobbypaul for his work and I hope you enjoy the plots. I find it is sometimes easier to have a handy picture when discussing topics in football. This may get some interesting discussion about the realignment.
