Okay-Okay, i’ll be the first to admit it. I am into cheesy sci-fi shows. So…I might be a little biased. I liked NBC’s show La Brea. I enjoyed laughing at the super cringy over- the- topness of it. All the bad cgi and the prehistoric giant sloth did get a gleeful giggle out of me. I even liked its peak soap opera level love triangles. Just it in itself and all of its sci-fi campy glory.
Hence, why, NBC’s (Netflix) other Sci-fi show Manifest was one of my favorite shows, when it was on. Idk. I just enjoyed the over-all mystery element of Manifest, trying to figure out what happened to the plane. The whole who done it aspect was a big draw for me.The whole was it the government? Aliens? Did the plane travel through a worm hole etc. kept me intrigued. Plus, I liked reading all of the crazy theories everyone had on Reddit. But, especially the part I liked most about both Manifest & La Brea were the characters. I really liked Michaela, (Melissa Roxburgh, on Manifest) and (Lucas, Josh Mckenzie on La Brea) And mainly initially I wanted to see them both do good on a new show. That’s basically what got me to tune in ‘The Hunting Party’ in the first place. Well that, and the concept of the show seemed cool. The whole secret prison hidden underground suffering an unexpected explosion leading to some of the nations most vile serial killers escaping and going on rampage. Before, getting hunted down sounded interesting. And, I was curious to see just how weird and freaky the writers would go about each serial killers backstory. I’m still hoping they’ll start to be some extreme over- the-top mind twist stories. The more outlandish the serial killers stories the better. That to me is worth watching The Hunting Party each week for. But, especially add in the element of the whole who done it mystery story line is a big draw.
And, well TBH you kind of got to push yourself through like the first 3 episodes of The Hunting Party, to finally get to episode 4. That’s when it really starts to get a whole lot better and the show really starts to feel like its finally pulling itself together. Not to give any of the twists away, or anything. But the writers start expanding on the main mystery element of the show. Plus, the serial killers story lines start to get creepier for episode 4. It really opens up some interesting mysteries, And, finally starts to feel like the over all main mystery can actually be headed in a cool direction. Idk, I’m just curious to find out who blew up the pit? Did the government really order it? How far are they going to go w/all the experiments they did on the killers? Did any of them actually work? Are there any killers who’ve been rehabilitated, just walking around? Are any of the main likeable characters in the show related to any of the killers? Or who knows maybe they could be secretly serial killers themselves rehabilitated ? Idk when you reach episode four it opens up lots of new questions that can enable people to start being able to come up w/some interesting theories.
Idk. Anyways though, I just wanted people to see this post, and tell them to give The Hunting Party a chance. It’s not enlightening, or anything. And, The Hunting Party isn’t very groundbreaking ,or anything. But it is starting to get more entertaining. (Like I said episode 4 starts to set up some cool possibilities of where the show could be going, you just got to push through the first 3 episodes. It’s got potential to be a fun show. Especially, if the writers really amp up the freakiness of each serial killers backstory. And go all out). That’s enough to keep me tuning in. Plus, hopefully the fan base will start growing. Just going off of some of the sites that follow that sort of ratings stuff, they say The Hunting Party viewership week-to-week is seeming to hold pretty steady. So that’s promising. Maybe, the show can at least have a chance to see a second season.
Plus, also there’s the whole angle part of since NBC has shown they like to stay with in house talent, like they did w/ Melissa Roxburgh & Josh Mckenzie. Maybe they could go on and get Josh Dallas to play some crazy scary serial killer w/ a freaky backstory. Seeing Ben Stone aka Prince Charming from Once Upon A Time playing a totally different non goody- goody type guy could be cool. And that possibility is also why I’m hoping for a renewal.
