A friend of mine just got set up to be a Nielsen ratings participant (not sure exactly what they’re called). They told me that it’s supposed to be kept a secret (no idea why, they said they don’t know why but everyone they talked to emphasized it).
One thing they mentioned was that there are “sweepstakes” where they can win a couple hundred dollars a week (I don’t remember exactly how much, but substantially more than the “base pay”). Here’s my three part question:
First: Has anyone that’s been involved with Nielsen ever won one of these sweepstakes?
Second: If it’s a legitimate sweepstakes, there should be a way for anyone, regardless of if they participate in the ratings process, to enter themselves into the sweepstakes (no purchase necessary). Does anyone know how to enter themselves into this sweepstake?
Third: Do they publish a list of winners?
I just kinda feel like they are stringing my friend along, and I told them this. They have a little device they need to wear for about 100 hours a week to be eligible to win, and it just seems like they want my friend (and everyone else involved) to wear it all day every day to get as much data as possible with some vague illusion of winning a few hundred dollars.
I used to work in an industry that bordered sweepstakes and I know the odds of winning a legit sweepstakes is low, and a bogus one is obviously impossible to win.
