I have a friend who is both a commie and a lovely person. It's weird, I know. The other day, we were having some random discussion, and her response to something was like "Well, I'm a commie, so things should be like...[insert on-topic discussion]... but people suck, so I'm for socialism". This way of thinking seems to be quite rampant, too. But what are they saying? They're basically saying that humans suck and are not capable of getting along and running a society on what really is tantamount to the honor system, so we should instead pick a few of the worst types of humans (politicians) and have them run the lives of literally hundreds of millions, if not billions of people.
Let's let that sink in for a second.
