This show was so bad I don’t even know where to start. Everything sucks from the story, characters, pacing and most importantly the world building. Here’s the thing I never understand with these supernatural teen drama shows, why don’t they devote as much time to finding a good supporting cast as they do with the main cast? When making a teen drama show you’d think the writers would create a believable thriving town/setting for our main characters. Most importantly is the school and the character’s houses. This means we need interesting supporting characters which includes teens from the school, teachers, administrators, parents, etc. Besides the terrible worldbuilding, the pacing of the story was exhausting to get through. There were so many jump scares, I nearly quit the show twice. It was extremely painful to see scary things happening on screen only for the character to wake up a second later from their hallucination.

The story follows Everett, Blake, Harlan and Luna throughout the show, but they all just feel like one-dimensional archetypes. Everett is the “crazy mental kid” with anxiety which he talks about every second it seems. Blake is the insecure girl that feels like she’s an outcast because of her acne scars, this makes zero sense because she’s so obviously hot. Harlan is just a very angry teenager and is very gay. Instead of making him three-dimensional and go through a compelling character arc, he just loves to kiss boys and that’s about it. They could have fleshed him out a bit more at least. Luna is the semi-outcast loner girl that is also very attractive who is also looking for friends. If I had to choose between who my favorite characters were throughout the entire show, It would be Blake and Luna.

I feel like also Everett had a lot of potential if he wasn’t so awkward and also struggling with a serious mental condition. His relationship with Blake was the highlight of the season, but it felt like something is missing from their relationship. Speaking of failed relationships, Luna and Austin was a complete no go for me. She’s very likeable, but something about her feels shallow like she doesn’t have anything to do in the show then look scared and sad. She’s clearly infatuated with Austin, but I don’t see the reason why. The guy is a complete douchebag and they have zero chemistry. I’m trying really hard not to use profanity, the writers really… eviscerated his character. Austin could have easily been a tragic character that acts like a jerk in public, but in reality he’s insecure because of some type of character flaw or rough home life and he’s drawn to Luna because she sees the real him or some stereotypical “romantic” storyline like that. Either way, what we got on the screen was terrible and I just don’t see them as a couple.

At the end of the day, I’d give the show a 4/10 and would not recommend it. I see why it got cancelled after one season. There are so many better shows out there featuring teenagers, the supernatural, and drama. If you enjoyed the show or hated it like me, please leave a detailed comment below!
