I F(22) was telling my mom this evening about a guy I’ve been talking to and am starting to like. After I was done, she said, “Well, you better not introduce him to Vanessa [fake name of an acquaintance we had been talking about earlier] because she is super pretty.”

When my mom saw my shocked reaction, she tried to backtrack with, “Not saying you’re not pretty! It’s just she’s like a Hispanic Barbie.” Exact words. Obviously, I was upset and ended the conversation, despite her insisting that “that wasn’t what she meant.”

It’s not just about her dissing my looks. I mean admittedly that did hurt, especially since she knows better than everyone how much I’ve struggled with my self image. It’s also the fact that this was my mom’s first reaction to me telling her about this guy, and she proceeded to insinuate that physical appearance was the only thing that mattered. God forbid he likes he for my personality or something.

Sorry, I know this is quite stupid, but I just needed to rant about it. Thank you for reading :)
