I (30M) recently started a job that I have been at for 4 weeks now. I a blue collar worker. During work a coworker(32M) was looking for an item and was attempting to get my attention. He shouted to me “hey boy” and asked where said item was. It has always been a major contention in my head being called “boy” when I am 30 years old. It brings bad memories of my father refusing to call me by my name. I also find it incredibly demeaning.

I calmly, but firmly said “I have a name”. To which he ignored me,and then asked again where said item was. I responded “I am not going to tolerate being called boy. I’m 30 years old,and that really pushes my buttons”. To which he ignored and then found the item he was looking for.

At first,I felt a little awkward for stating this out loud and in front of others. Then I felt proud of myself for not allowing myself to be walked on,as usually happens. At this point I feel like maybe I am an asshole and overreacted, and my coworkers might be thinking the same. What does everyone else think?
