People associate different values and traits between masculinity and femininity as if they are opposed to each other. I never understood this as individual humans can be very nuanced and share traits associated with both. For example, one can be tough and outgoing (masculine) whilst showing care and love towards others (feminine). On the flipside, you can have one who is nurturing (feminine) whilst interested in leading others out of danger (masculine).

Even more confusing is that values change constantly. Like, it used to be masculine in European cultures to wear makeup before that became feminine.

Why do we separate traits and values between masculinity and femininity?
