Earlier today I went in for a Nexplanon insertion, and I was quite nervous seeing as I had never had something like that done before, I’ve only ever taken the pill and wanted something more permanent. I went into the exam room and was immediately greeted by a very kind nurse and a shadowing student, and they did everything to make sure I was comfortable during the procedure.

The student got me some extra dosage for local anesthesia because I expressed anxiety that it may hurt, brought me snacks and soda for if I felt lightheaded, and then held my hand for the entire insertion, keeping me distracted with conversation.

My doctor was also very kind and was willing to explain every step of the process, and afterwards comforted me at the thought of scheduling a Pap smear, which I have never done before since I just got to that age, and was a bit nervous at the thought of that kind of an examination.

Overall such a great experience, and it does give me a lot of hope. Even though I really hate the American healthcare system as a whole, it is good to know that there are some great people involved in it who genuinely care about their patients.
